Even when it hits 100 degrees in the glaring sun, they be still diggin' it

ROCHESTER - They say only mad dogs and Englishmen go out in the midday sun.
We now have to add Sur Construction workers to the list as a four-man crew was seen digging up Portland Street just north of the First Congregational Church Wednesday afternoon as the mercury bore down on the century mark.
"Yeah, we'll be losing a few pounds," said Dave, a member of the crew.
It was dirty, dangerous work, especially for Bob, who clambered down a ladder into a trench from which an excavator first extracted and then filled back in clean fill that was piled on the north side of the street.
The workers preferred not to give their last names as they were not cleared to speak to media.
Dave said the crew began around 6:30 a.m. and would be done around 3 p.m.
The hardest thing about working when it's 100 degrees?
"Just the heat and trying to stay hydrated," he said. "You just can't get enough water into you."

Meanwhile, today's finale to the four-day heat wave will feature a powerful thunderstorm that could produce high winds and hail in the midafternoon.

Tomorrow's high is expected to be in the high 70s, but the humidity will hang around.

The weekend will be mostly in the 70s with sporadic showers and thunderstorms.
