DOVER - One thing folks that work down at the Strafford County Courthouse know for sure is the Court Jester, the inhouse cafe open from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. every weekday is no joke. They serve up some seriously good food.

"Dave is fantastic," one bailiff said this week. "He's a real chef."

On Tuesday the special was a delicious shepherd's pie, on Wednesday, roast pork with all the fixins.

Chef Dave also had a fresh greens salad with a southwest dry-rub chicken breast topped with homemade bean and corn salsa and with tortilla strips.

The pork loin and chicken breast salad along with other daily specials are just $6 and the helpings were huge.

Most sandwiches with lettuce and tomato, chips and pickles go for $4.50.

I got a chicken salad sandwich with gluten-free bread which was toasted on the grill, no extra charge.

In the morning they serve a complete breakfast for about $5 or $6.

Dave said workers come over from the nearby county nursing home and jail all the time, and he takes pride in that, too.

"Yeah, we're building a little clientele," he quipped.

If you're in the area and looking for a delicious meal at a yummy price, just stop on in.

Of course you might have to go through a metal detector, and take off your belt, but trust me, it's worth it. Keep the belt off till you finish eating!
