DOVER - The Greater Dover Chamber of Commerce City Lights Committee, along with local businesses and community volunteers, spent several hours on Friday decorating Dover's downtown with lights in preparation for the upcoming holiday season.

The City of Dover, Leavitt Electrical Contractors, Martineau Electric, Breezeline, Urban Tree Service, and Eversource all generously donated time and resources to help with the project. Ladders were donated by ServPro of the Seacoast.

Several downtown businesses and property owners allow the committee to plug lights into their building to illuminate these lights. These businesses include Harvey's Bakery & Coffee Shop, Hopkins Enterprises, Summit Land Development, Kostis Enterprises, and Sonny's Tavern. Harvey's Bakery & Coffee Shop has been volunteering to hang lights in Dover for 14 years.

The Dover City Lights Committee is funded by the Greater Dover Chamber of Commerce's annual Festival of Trees. This event features more than 35 trees elaborately decorated by local businesses and organizations. The trees are then auctioned and raffled off. This event is free and open to the public. The 2021 Festival of Trees is scheduled for Dec. 2, from 4-8 p.m. at the Rivermill at Dover Landing. Visit dovernh.org/fot for more information.

In addition to hanging lights during the holiday season, the Dover City Lights Committee also hangs American flags on Central Avenue during the summer months.
