City sewer upgrades will create downtown disruptions beginning on Monday

While sewer service is temporarily unavailable, residents will be asked to limit water use and avoid activities such as using washing machines or dishwashers, city officials said.

ROCHESTER - The City of Rochester will be conducting sewer connection rehabilitation work in the downtown area using a method known as Cured-in-Place Pipelining. This work is expected to begin sometime during the week of Jan. 12, with specific dates and locations to be determined.

Cured-in-Place Pipelining is a trenchless technology that creates a new, jointless sewer pipe inside the existing connection. The process improves flow, reduces root and water infiltration, and strengthens the sewer system without the need for excavation.

During construction, affected residents and businesses should expect a temporary disruption of sewer service lasting approximately 6 to 8 hours while their individual service connection is rehabilitated. Property owners will receive advance notice from the contractor, including a general notice within one week of the work and a 24-hour notice prior to their specific service interruption.
