City of Sanford worker dies when hit by city-owned vehicle he'd been operating

SPRINGVALE, Maine - A city of Sanford employee was struck and killed by a city-owned vehicle he had been operating just prior to his death.

Police have not identified the victim, who died at the scene around 1:30 p.m. on Monday.

Sanford police officers responded to 447 Main Street, Springvale, for reports of a man struck by a truck. The incident occurred in front of Springvale District Court.

When officers arrived they found the man lying in the street. Fire Department personnel pronounced him deceased.

This crash is being investigated by the Sanford Police Department with the assistance of the Maine State Police Commercial Vehicle Unit. The CVU assists outside agencies with the investigation of serious commercial motor vehicle crashes.

There was no word on possible witnesses to the incident.
