ROCHESTER - A Rochester man was killed on Sunday night during what police are reporting as an altercation between two men on Sylvain Street.

Richard Dumont, 37, was shot and later died, according to a joint press release from the state Attorney General’s Office and Rochester Police Chief Michael Allen.

The press release stated that, “When police arrived, they discovered two adult males at the scene, one of whom had been shot. “

Police were first called for a report of an altercation at 10:06 p.m.

The other man has not been identified, and Police say the investigation is still in its early stages.

Dumont was treated at the scene and transported to a hospital, but later succumbed to his injuries, the report indicated.

The New Hampshire Chief Medical Examiner’s Office will conduct an autopsy on the victim tomorrow to determine the cause and manner of death.

Although the investigation is still in its early stages, the police have determined that the shooting did not involve strangers and that both people involved in the incident have been identified.
