ROCHESTER - On Dec. 5 members of the Rochester City Council moved to appoint Matthew Richardson to the Ward 6/Seat B position after former Councilor Dana Berlin resigned before the end of his term.
Richardson had run unopposed during the Nov. 7 Municipal Election but was appointed early to fill the unexpired term.
On Tuesday Councilor Amy Malone (Ward 2/Seat B) resigned in a letter to City Council, due to "unplanned and personal circumstances."
"I would like to express my deepest gratitude to you and the entire team for your support, guidance, and collaboration throughout my tenure," said Malone. "The experience I have gained from working alongside such a dedicated group of individuals has been invaluable, and I am grateful for the opportunity."
With Malone's resignation effective immediately, City Council is responsible for accepting the resignation, declaring the seat vacant, and appointing another member of the community to the Ward 2/Seat B position.
Once the seat is officially vacated, prospective candidates from Ward 2 are encouraged to complete a Statement of Interest form, which is available in the City Clerk's Office, located in City Hall.
A public forum for potential candidates will be held during an upcoming City Council meeting. Each candidate will have an opportunity to address Rochester residents and members of the Council. Once all candidates have been heard, City Council will vote to appoint a new member, effective immediately.
