City announces renewal of risk management program

ROCHESTER - City Manager Daniel Fitzpatrick on announce Wednesday that the City of Rochester has initiated the process to renew its participation in the New Hampshire Public Risk Management Exchange's workplace safety program.

The Primex Recognition of Risk Management, Effort, Effectiveness and Excellence (Prime3) program rewards communities that actively establish workplace safety benchmarks and institute best practices meant to help attain them.

In order to maintain its Prime3 designation, which its held every year since 2009, the city must live up to those annual safety standards while also implementing 10 Primex-recognized best practices. As a result of maintaining the designation, the city earns a 2.5 percent discount from Primex's Workers Compensation and Property and Liability programs.

Since joining the Prime3 program, Rochester has saved over $77,000 in combined workers' compensation and property/liability insurance premiums.

"Rochester has made a lasting commitment to workplace safety that would not be possible without the hands-on involvement of every department and employee," Joint Loss Management Committee Chair Brian Sylvester said.

Following a self-assessment by the Rochester Joint Loss Management Committee, the city has applied for renewal of its Prime3 status based on its ongoing maintenance of the following 10 best practices or policies:

Tracking of Loss Experience Benchmarks

Active Joint Loss Management Committee

Current Written Safety Program

Prompt Claims Reporting Procedures

Temporary Alternate Duty program for injured workers

Slip, Trip and Fall Prevention Policy

Facility Inspections

Seat Belt Use Policy

Conspicuous and Visible Display of Required Federal/State Workplace Postings

Updated Harassment and Discrimination Policy
