Rochester Police are dealing with a rash of thefts from cars in Gonic, along Old Dover and Tibbetts roads and Rochester Hill and are asking the public to be extra vigilant and also lock their car doors overnight.

The upward spike covers the past month, with 13 incidents between Feb. 28 and March 29, according to Rochester Police Capt. Paul Toussaint.

The thefts always occur in unlocked motor vehicles, he said. A press release issued by police on Monday said this type of crime normally increases as milder weather arrives.

Besides locking your doors, police are urging citizens to reduce the number of high-value items left inside vehicles.

The Rochester Police are asking anyone who has information regarding these crimes to contact the Rochester Police Department at 330-7127 or they can contact Rochester Crime Line at 335-6500 or Text to: CRIMES (274637) Body of Text: TEXT4CASH + your tip. Cash rewards are offered for information that leads to an arrest.
