RAYMOND - A Candia man suffered life-threatening injuries in an early morning crash on Route 101 on Sunday.
State Troopers responded to Route 101 eastbound in Raymond around 3:30 a.m. after receiving a report of a vehicle off the road. Upon arrival they found a 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee several hundred feet off the road in a wooded area between the Exit 5 offramp and Route 101, according to a statement released by the Dept. of Safety on Sunday afternoon.
When troopers made their way to the Jeep they found the driver had been partially ejected and was seriously injured. Troopers rendered aid until emergency medical services arrived and began assessing and treating the driver. Troopers and firefighters also conducted an extensive search of the area to confirm no other passengers were in the Jeep at the time of the crash.
The preliminary investigation at the scene indicated the driver of the Jeep, identified as Alex J. Sitton, 34, of Candia, had been traveling on the Exit 5 offramp along Route 101 eastbound when, for reasons that remain under investigation, Sitton lost control of the Jeep, resulting in the vehicle leaving the left side of the road and entering a wooded area. The vehicle struck several trees and overturned before ultimately coming to rest on its roof.
Sitton was transported by ambulance to an area hospital for treatment of life-threatening injuries.
While troopers investigated the scene and emergency personnel conducted an extensive effort to remove the involved Jeep, along with a significant amount of debris, the Exit 5 offramp along Route 101 eastbound was closed for approximately four and a half hours. The offramp was reopened to traffic at 8 a.m.
All aspects of the crash remain under investigation. Anyone with information regarding the crash that may assist in the investigation is asked to contact Trooper Clark Brighton at Clark.A.Brighton@DOS.NH.GOV.
