BIDDEFORD, Maine - A Bay State man injured when his pickup truck rolled over on the Saco River bridge on Friday has succumbed to his injuries.

The crash occurred around 1:50 p.m. in the southbound lanes on the Saco River bridge where troopers responded and found that a 2004 Ford Pickup operated by Nathan Kennedy, 21, of Halifax, Mass., had struck the median guard rail causing his truck to roll over and come to a stop on its side in the breakdown lane.

As a result of the crash Kennedy was ejected from the vehicle. He was transported to Southern Maine Medical Center and then to Maine Medical Center in Portland in serious condition.

A Maine Dept. of Safety press release today reported that Kennedy died at Maine Med overnight.

An initial investigation showed that speed was not a factor and that Kennedy was not wearing his seat belt at the time of the crash. The second vehicle was struck by debris from the bed of the truck after Kennedy hit the median. The occupants of the second vehicle were not injured.

State Police were assisted by Saco Fire and Rescue and Maine Turnpike Authority Maintenance workers.
