CONCORD, N.H. - Rochester resident Richard Dumont was killed by a single gunshot wound to the chest, according to a report from the state’s Medical Examiner.

The Attorney General’s office released the finding on Wednesday afternoon.

Dumont, 37, was fatally shot a little after 10 p.m. on Sunday on Sylvain Street, apparently after an argument with a friend, who has not been identified by police.

The Attorney General’s Office is in charge of what has now officially been ruled a homicide.

The investigation into the incident is ongoing, the press release noted.

Multiple witnesses have said they heard two gunshots after the argument had gone on for some time not too far from the corner of Washington Street.

The man who is thought to be the shooter never fled and, in fact, was thought to have been one of three people to call police to summon help and helped divert traffic around the scene before first responders arrived.

One neighbor who didn’t want to be identified said her son watched from his bedroom window as the men were angrily shouting at each other.

She talked to The Lebanon Voice on Monday about what her son said he saw. “He said there was one outside the car yelling at a man inside the car. The one outside was shouting something like, ‘Where you been, man. I’ve been trying to call you for four hours.’”

She said her son watched them scream at each other like that for some time, then grew tired of watching and lay back down to try to sleep.

“As soon as his head hit the pillow, that’s when he heard the two shots,” she said, adding the one who had been outside the car was now lying on the pavement.

She said the man who is thought to have shot Dumont remained talking to police for at least an hour at the scene after the shooting.

Neighbors on Monday said the two men were friends. One said they suspected who the shooter was. But they wondered why no one had been arrested.
