LEBANON, Maine - A Lebanon man was killed and a Berwick woman seriously injured in a head-on crash in Lebanon Friday night.
The collision occurred around 6 p.m. on Long Swamp Road near the intersection with Lord Road, according to a press release sent out by York County Sheriff William King Saturday afternoon.
A preliminary investigation revealed that Daniel Dempsey, 39, of Lebanon, was driving a 2021 Mazda A6 south on Long Swamp Road when his vehicle crossed into the opposing lane of travel, striking a 2021 Dodge 1500 head-on.
Dempsey was pronounced deceased at the scene. His passenger, Christina Gagnon, 44, of Berwick, sustained serious, but nonlife threatening injuries. She was transported to Portsmouth Regional Hospital.
The driver of the Dodge, William Long, 22, of South Berwick, and his passenger, Jenna Dixon, 20, of Berwick, both escaped with minor injuries. They were transported to Wentworth Douglas Hospital.
Both vehicles appeared to be totaled and were towed from the scene.
Alcohol, speed, and reckless driving are believed to be contributing factors in the crash, which is being reconstructed by the York Police Department.
