Adult high school diplomas awarded to an energized, exulting throng 42 strong

ROCHESTER -- Graduates of the Rochester Community Education Adult High School Diploma Program received their high school diplomas last month.

The celebration took place on June 20 at Spaulding High School and recognized the accomplishments of 42 graduates of the program.

The Adult High School Diploma Program is available to any individual age 16 and up. The program is held online, giving participating students the flexibility to fit courses into their busy schedules.

The program is directed by Spaulding High School Assistant Principal Jason Bushway and is funded through a New Hampshire Department of Education grant.

In a speech at graduation, Bushway urged graduates to rejoice in what they accomplished, to begin setting new goals, and to embrace the larger community as they move forward in life.

"It is your turn to create new goals to accomplish. Don't stop here. It is your power, passion and perseverance that has taken you this far and it will be that same power, passion and perseverance that will propel you to the next stage in your life," Bushway said. "We may work independently but we are part of a greater community. As a member of the RCE community we will always be here to support you and your goals."

Rochester Community Education Coordinator Deborah Roche spoke and told the story of an RCE graduate who dropped out of school, but then completed the Adult High School Diploma Program and realized her future is now full of better options.

"I think this graduate's reflection is a window into just what the Rochester Community Education program provides -- options for those who feel that they are out of options for completion of their high school diploma requirements," added Roche.

"I would like to congratulate each of these graduates for their hard work, perseverance and determination to complete this level of their education," said Rochester Schools Superintendent Kyle Repucci. "I would also like to express my gratitude to all those who make the work of Rochester Community Education possible."

Rochester Community Education is a community education center located in the Richard W. Creteau Regional Technology Center, adjacent to Spaulding High School.
