Acton artist brings his version of Aboriginal Art to Rochester gallery

ROCHESTER - The Franklin Gallery at RiverStones Custom Framing, 33 N. Main Street, Rochester, will host an exhibit called "Dreamtime" during the month of October. This exhibit will feature the artwork of Acton, Maine, artist Ken Eason.

The Gallery will host an Artist's Reception for the exhibit on Oct. 4 from 5:30-7 p.m., and the public is invited to come and see the exhibit and meet the artist. Light refreshments will be served.

"Several years ago, vacationing in Australia with family," says Eason, "I was introduced to Aboriginal Art and was fascinated by the technique, symbolism and variety. Aboriginal Art is centered on telling the ancient stories of the Aboriginal peoples using symbolism and metaphor. The imagery is described as symbols of the 'Dreamtime' which is the Aboriginal understanding of nature and the world."

"This series explores my own personal "Dreamtime" where I can be physically at home but mentally, spiritually and emotionally away," he continues. "I use line as symbol of path, thought, or journey. These lines tend to overlap in many layers, each curve signifying a decision point, change in life's direction or choice."

Eason has been painting abstracts in oil and encaustic since 1992. He is inspired by the endless shades of blues and greens in the lakes, ocean, mountains and woods of Maine and New Hampshire. He is interested in texture and color and uses brushes, painting knives, spatulas, rags and fire to manipulate the medium to achieve a unique expressive view point.

He has degrees from UNH in biology, psychology, and computer information studies and draws on each of these disciplines in realizing his artwork. He is also an active member of New England Wax, the Art Guild of the Kennebunks and the Wakefield Art Group.
