A ton more cases, but official hospitalization rate drops to its lowest level in months

CONCORD - Current local COVID case numbers had been unavailable on the DHHS website due to site maintenance the past few days but they returned Monday with spikes seen in many local cities and towns including Rochester, Dover and Durham.

Meanwhile, DHHS officials announced 358 new positive test results for COVID-19 on Monday with a rising positivity rate of 4.3 percent, up four times what it was in mid-September.

The new cases included 64 individuals under the age of 18 and 26 from Strafford County.

Local numbers show 54 active cases in Rochester, 82 in Dover, 136 in Durham, 16 in Somersworth, 15 in Farmington, 12 in Barrington, nine in Milton and none in Strafford.

DHHS also announced one additional death related to COVID-19, a man over 60 from Coos County.

Even with the rising case counts, there was one glimmer of hope in today's numbers with the official state hospitalization rate dropping to 5 percent, half what it was at the height of the first surge last May.
