The man who allegedly drove the wrong way on the Spaulding Turnpike at high speeds back in March leading police on a chase has been indicted on a host of charges stemming from the incident.
Richard Davis, 41, of Old Pound Road, Effingham, is said to have driven the wrong way on the Exit 11 off ramp, then drove northbound in the southbound lane of the highway before leading Strafford County Sheriff’s deputies on a high-speed chase down Old Dover Road.
The indictment says Pound placed other motorists at great risk, forcing them to pull over as he sped toward them the wrong way.
Then, while on Old Dover Road, he allegedly passed several cars while trying to elude a pair of deputies who were chasing him.
Davis faces three reckless conduct indictments in the case as well as two Class A misdemeanors for failing to stop for deputies.
The Class B felonies all carry 3 ½ to 7 year sentences, while the misdemeanors both carry a year in jail. All charges also carry stiff fines as well.
An indictment is not an indication of guilt, only that a grand jury has found sufficient reason to move forward to trial.
