CONCORD - The pursuit of a car stolen out of Boston that began in Newton and continued into Massachusetts before returning to New Hampshire ended with a tire deflation device and the arrest of a Cambridge, Mass., man on multiple felonies.

The bizarre chase that crisscrossed multiple jurisdictions began on Tuesday around 9:30 p.m. as Troopers from the NHSP Troop A were alerted to an ongoing vehicle pursuit of a 2014 Nissan Pathfinder which had been initiated by the Newton Police on a speeding violation.

The pursuit subsequently entered into Amesbury, Mass., at which time the vehicle pursuit was continued by the Amesbury and Massachusetts State Police.

Eventually, these pursuing agencies discontinued the vehicle pursuit when the Nissan traveled along Interstate 95 back into New Hampshire.

Then around 10 p.m. NHSP located the Nissan along I-95 north in Hampton and learned that the SUV had been reported stolen out of Boston.

Given this information, troopers initiated a vehicle pursuit of the Nissan on Route 101 west in Brentwood, where the Nissan traveled at excessive rates of speed in an erratic manner.

Eventually, the vehicle exited Route 101 west and traveled onto Route 125 north in Epping. After traveling onto a series of side roads adjacent to Route 125 in Epping, the Nissan returned to Route 125 north near the intersection of Hedding Road, where Sgt. Thomas Conlon of NHSP deployed stop sticks. After continuing for a short distance, the Nissan came to a stop and the lone occupant in the vehicle was taken into custody without further incident.

Through further investigation and with the assistance of Cambridge Police in making a positive identification, the operator was identified as Braulio A. Matos, 31, of Cambridge.

As a result of this investigation, Matos was charged with receiving stolen property (Class A Felony), reckless conduct (Class B Felony), disobeying an officer (Class A Misdemeanor), aggravated driving under the influence of liquor or drugs (Class A Misdemeanor), and several other misdemeanor charges.

Matos was being held on preventative detention at the Rockingham County House of Corrections facility pending his arraignment today.

The Nissan was impounded pending application for a search warrant and additional charges may be forthcoming.

This incident remains under investigation by Trooper Geoffrey Miller of the New Hampshire State Police - Troop A Barracks. Anyone with information pertaining to this investigation is asked to contact Trooper Miller via email at Geoffrey.S.Miller@dos.nh.gov.
