ROCHESTER - It may not hold the record for the tightest state rep race in the state's history, but it's surely up there with the tightest.
It is hoped that on Wednesday the District 8 (Ward 4) contest between incumbent Chuck Grassie and challenger David Walker will be decided during a 9:30 a.m. recount in the archives room of the Secretary of State's Office.
Tuesday's vote ended with Walker, a Republican, squeaking out a one-vote victory over Grassie, a Democrat, 971-970.

Both candidates say they are looking forward to the recount.
"I'm optimistic," said Grassie, who said he was recovering from an Election Day cold. "I've been through numerous recounts. Dave and I have both had recounts in the past. It's nothing new."
Walker told The Rochester Voice he was also feeling good about his chances.
"It was a hard fought, respectful campaign," he said. "I'm pleased to come out on top and with a one vote win; I expected a recount. Hopefully, the lead will hold and I will have the honor to represent the great people of Ward 4."
The recount process calls for two teams of counters. Each candidate can also have their attorney and an official observer for each team.
Supporters of each candidate can also watch the proceedings.
The District 8 recount is one of 16 state rep races getting a second look, Grassie said today.
