LEBANON – The Lebanon man who fell Saturday while shoveling snow off his roof remained in critical condition Thursday at Maine Medical Center, according to a hospital spokesman.

Dr. Paul Basko, a well-respected and liked chiropractor, underwent surgery at Maine Medical Center on Tuesday due to injuries sustained Saturday afternoon while attempting to remove snow from the roof of his Fall Road residence.

According to a neighbor who didn’t want to be identified, Basko may have fallen when his ladder slipped on snow or ice. The neighbor said they believed Basko may have laid in the snow injured for a period of time on Saturday before being found by family members.

The exact nature of Basko's injuries have not been released, but some type of back or neck injury is suspected.

A family member on Wednesday at the Basco residence said they thought he was responding well to the surgery.

Basko has a chiropractic practice on Main Street in Springvale, Maine.
