Trash truck demolishes tollbooth, snarls morning commute

ROCHESTER - A tollbooth on the southbound side of the Spaulding Turnpike was destroyed early Thursday morning when it was struck by a Waste Management trash truck around 6:40 a.m.

Police were on scene quickly with EMS tending to an occupant of the tollbooth who was described as having minor injuries.

The accident closed Lane 1 and backed up southbound commuters.

A Lebanon, Maine, man, 29-year-old Michael Stelline, was identified by state police as the driver of the truck. He was unhurt.

The toll booth attendant, 77-year-old Stacy Doris of Rochester, was treated and released.

Lane 1 will be closed until necessary repairs can be made, officials said.
