The 'sub-above' experience that ended a 40-year culinary drought

ROCHESTER - Once I heard Jersey Mike's was coming to town I knew it wouldn't be long before I would be giving it a try, especially after seeing all those clever commercials with pitchman Danny DeVito over the past few years.
When I learned they were the only franchise fast-food option that catered to those who are gluten free. I was even more intrigued.
I finally got around to sampling one of their subs last week, and their "sub above" actually put me into orbit.
After going more than 40 years without having a sub with a sub roll, the first bite was nirvana,
What really impressed me was that unlike gluten free hamburg rolls that turn into an amorphous glob at first bite, the gluten free sub rolls at Jersey Mike's stayed together.
Even when I finished it the next day it was still intact.
I got the Club Sub, which is turkey, ham and applewood smoked bacon, dressed up with lettuce, tomato, pickles and olive oil.
How did it taste? It tasted ...fresh and delicious.
It cost about $13, and if you're on a diet, about 1,100 calories.
