SOMERSWORTH - A Mother's Day fire at an apartment house in Somersworth displaced 16 residents.

The fire at 9 Linden St. was called in a little before noon, according to a post on the Somersworth Professional Firefighters Local Facebook page.

The blaze quickly went to three alarms bringing in off-duty firefighters and mutual aid from Dover and several other communities.

First-arriving firefighters from Somersworth and Berwick, Maine, were able to keep the fire from spreading to the entire building until more resources arrived.

One person was transported to an area hospital with possible burns, officials said.
