SHS alum, 1st trumpet on President's Marine Band to help celebrate nation's 250th

ROCHESTER - A Spaulding High graduate who spent more than two decades as Principal Trumpet with "The President's Own" United States Marine Band will help Rochester celebrate the country's 250th anniversary. On June 10 the city will welcome Master Gunnery Sergeant Kurt Dupuis (Retired), currently residing in Virginia. according to a release from Rochester Historical Society President Ralph Montgomery. With a distinguished 30-year career--including more than 25 years as Principal Trumpet with "The President's Own" United States Marine Band, Dupuis will share his extraordinary experiences. Founded in 1798 by an Act of Congress, "The President's Own" United States Marine Band is the oldest continuously active professional musical organization in America. Its mission is to provide music for the President of the United States and the Commandant of the Marine Corps. During his presentation, Dupuis will share photos and stories from his career, which included serving six U.S. Presidents. He will recount significant events both domestically and internationally, including a memorable performance of "Taps" from the White House portico that broadcast on national television. A Spaulding High School graduate (Class of 1985), Dupuis currently serves as 2nd/Associate Principal Trumpet with the Hawaii Symphony Orchestra. He will travel to Rochester on June 8 to join us for this special event. "We are incredibly grateful for his willingness to visit us and help make this 250th anniversary celebration a truly memorable milestone for our organization," said Montgomery.
