Sex offender with dozens of convictions arrested again

COPYRIGHT2017© ROCHESTER - A registered sex offender who has racked up 36 convictions over 25 years from lewdness to indecent exposure to felonious sexual assault was arrested on prowling and violation of privacy misdemeanors Tuesday night.

Police first became involved in the incident after a caller on Lincoln Street told dispatch a little after 11 p.m. that he and a woman had seen a suspicious man looking through several windows at a nearby residence.

When officers arrived, however, the subject was gone, but officers soon found a man matching their description given on Knight Street where he was interviewed by police.

The couple who had called in the incident later identified the suspect who was then taken into custody.

Christopher C. Crosby, 45, of 10 Myrtle St., Apt. #B, was charged with one count of violation of privacy and one count of prowling, Rochester Police Capt. Jason Thomas said Wednesday afternoon.

Thomas added that Crosby's charges had been elevated to Class A misdemeanors due to his long history of similar behavior.

Crosby pleaded not guilty in Rochester District Court today and is being held on $500 cash bail.

According to the New Hampshire Department of Safety Registry of Criminal Offenders, Crosby's initial convictions were in 1992 for theft by unauthorized taking, receiving stolen property, and two counts of felonious sexual assault. His registration as a sex offender began in June 2012 for a conviction for violation of privacy and two counts of felonious sexual assault with a victim between 13 and 16.

His most recent conviction was for failure to report a new address with the registry.

A trial date is set for July 31 at Rochester District Court.
