Sanford woman charged with trafficking meth; firearms charges expected

SANFORD, Maine - The Maine Drug Enforcement Agency arrested a Sanford woman on Wednesday on charges of aggravated drug trafficking.

Brandi Richmond, 30, of 43 Bateman St., was found with a significant amount of meth and firearms that were all seized.. She was charged with trafficking of meth.

Police also executed a search warrant at her home following an ongoing investigation of methamphetamine and other illegal drugs being distributed in Sanford.

For the past two months, MDEA and Sanford Police have been investigating the trafficking of methamphetamine from her home, during which time agents conducted undercover purchases of illegal drugs from Richmond.

Agents obtained an arrest warrant for Richmond charging her with two counts of Class B Unlawful Trafficking Schedule W Drugs as part of the investigation. Richmond was arrested without incident during a traffic stop on Main Street in Sanford around 4 p.m. Richmond was found in possession of methamphetamine, fentanyl and $2,500 in suspected drug proceeds.

A search warrant was then executed at the 43 Bateman St. residence. Due to the known presence of firearms at the residence during the undercover purchases, MDEA requested the assistance of the Southern Maine Response Team and Cumberland County Emergency Services Unit to safely make the initial entry into the Bateman residence.

Once the residence was secured agents conducted a search resulting in the seizure of around 50 grams of methamphetamine, packaging materials as well as other items associated with drug trafficking. Five firearms were located throughout the residence, three of which were loaded and in proximity of the seized drugs.

Richmond was transported to the York County Jail where bail was set at $2,500 cash.

Additional charges are expected related to the additional methamphetamine and firearms seized.
