Sanford police probe Dollar General stabbing incident; suspect still at large

SANFORD, Maine - Sanford detective today are on the hunt for a suspect in a stabbing incident at the Midtown Mall Family Dollar.

Local police got involved Sunday around 10 p.m. after responding to a report of a stabbing.

When police arrived at the store they found a male victim identified as 59-year-old Robert Wilson who was was found on his knees with bystanders actively trying to control the bleeding.

Wilson, of Sanford, was transported to Maine Medical Center in Portland for treatment of stab wounds to his back and left side. He is currently listed in stable condition.

The suspect is described as having long hair and was last seen wearing blue jeans, a backward-facing hat, and a multi-colored hooded sweatshirt (not tie-dye or camo). He was last spotted heading north. The York County Sheriff's Office K9 Unit arrived on scene to assist in tracking the suspect.

The suspect also stole a backpack from the scene.

Safety officials say they have leads on the identity of the suspect and are actively pursuing them.
