Sanford man, 31, dies when car rear-ended, pushed into path of school bus

BERWICK, Maine - A Sanford man died on Wednesday after his car was rear-ended and sent into the path of an oncoming school bus.

The accident occurred around 1:40 p.m. in the area of the intersection of Portland Street and Old Route 4.

Police identified the man as a 31-year-old Sanford resident, but no name was released.

According to Berwick police, a 42-year-old Sanford woman was driving a Toyota Rav 4 at the intersection of the two roadways when she rear-ended a Ford Fusion that was making a turn. The collision pushed the Ford Fusion into the path of a school bus driven by a 75-year-old man from Kittery.

The driver of the Fusion was pronounced dead at Wentworth-Douglass Hospital in Dover, N.H.

There were no students on the bus.

Police continue to investigate the crash.
