ROCHESTER - The Monday shooting of a woman at the Professional Arts Building on Winter Street appears to have been a targeted attack, The Rochester Voice has learned.
The victim, who had an office in the building, is fighting for her life after taking a bullet to the head, police said in a press release sent out early Thursday morning.
The victim and the suspect, Haydee Rivera-Nadeau, 65, of Somersworth, were acquaintances, said the sources, who asked The Voice not to identify them for this story.
When a client of the victim arrived for a scheduled appointment and found they were not there they called one of the victim's family members, who called the victim's phone, which pinged at the office, sources told The Voice.
The family member then went to the office where they found the victim and called 911.
Rochester Police got involved around 11:45 a.m. on Monday when they along with Rochester Fire and Frisbie EMS responded to 40 Winter St. for a report of a 50-year-old female who had suffered a traumatic head injury earlier in the day.
When officers arrived, they located the 50-year-old victim in an office suffering from a single gunshot wound to the head, according to a press release sent out early Thursday by Rochester Police Chief Gary Bourdreau. Paramedics from Frisbie Memorial Hospital, along with assistance from Rochester Fire personnel, initially stabilized the victim on scene before Frisbie Ambulance transported her to Portsmouth Regional Hospital for trauma care.
The victim remains at Portsmouth Regional Hospital in critical condition at this time.
Meanwhile, the Rochester Police Investigative Services Bureau quickly identified a female suspect early in the investigation. As a result, arrest warrants were obtained for Haydee Rivera-Nadeau, 65, of Somersworth, charging her with first degree assault, second degree assault and attempted second degree murder.
Then on Wednesday around 6:50 p.m., Rochester Police Detectives began following up with information on the suspect possibly being in Charlotte Mecklenburg, N.C., where police were ultimately able to make contact with Rivera-Nadeau who was taken into custody without incident.
She was charged with being a fugitive from justice and is being held at Mecklenburg County Jail. Her initial court appearance was on Tuesday.
The investigation remain active at this time, according to Rochester Police, who were able to identify the suspect early on. The early identification of the suspect was thanks to multiple surveillance cameras in place at the Winter Street building, The Rochester Voice learned on Thursday.
