BERWICK, Maine - Alcohol and speed are being blamed in a crash that killed a Rochester woman on Saturday in Berwick, Maine, but a Go Fund Me page set up to raise funds for her family says the crash occurred when a deer jumped out in front of her SUV.
Ashanti Cox, 29, died when she was ejected from her 2020 Kia Telluride shortly before 4:45 a.m. after it left the roadway near the intersection of School Street (Route 9) and Old Sanford Road and struck a stand of trees, Berwick Police said in a Monday press release.
Cox, who leaves behind a four-year-old daughter, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Alcohol and speed are believed to be contributing factors in the crash, police said.
The accident scene is being reconstructed by the York Police Department.
Meanwhile, a Go Fund Me page set up to help the family has already raised $2,510 of a $6,000 goal.
