Rochester adopts Obama-ordered transgender policy

ROCHESTER - Rochester has adopted a transgender policy for school bathroom use that falls in line with President Obama's directive earlier this year.

Under the policy approved by the Rochester School Board last night, students are free to use the bathroom of the gender they identify with as opposed to their gender at birth.

The Obama administration has threatened that school districts that do not comply would lose federal funding under Title IX.

Other area schools like Noble and Milton have also taken steps to comply with the Obama directive.

Earlier this summer, a federal circuit court judge in Texas blocked the Obama administration's directive, granting an injunction sought by 13 dissenting states and paving the way for s Supreme Court battle under the next administration.
