ALFRED, Maine - A Berwick man is one of two York County Jail inmates recently arrested on charges of drug possession and trafficking in prison contraband in connection with suboxone strips sent through the mail.

The investigation into the two prisoners and two women from Massachusetts who allegedly mailed the drugs began in February after York County Sheriff's Investigators received information that several individuals had conspired to introduce suboxone strips into the York County Jail through the mail.

The recipients of the suboxone were York County Jail residents Sonny Morse of Lynn, Mass., and John Lane of Berwick.

During the probe two separate packages were intercepted that were intended for Lane and Morse. The point of origin of the packages was shown to be Massachusetts. Each package contained suboxone strips that were hidden between pieces of paper. Police believe Lane and Morse intended to sell the suboxone strips to other inmates.

York County Deputies served warrants on Sonny Morse, 46 and John Lane, 30, on May 7.

Morse was charged with two counts of trafficking in prison contraband, two counts of illegal importation of a scheduled drug and two counts of violation of condition of release

Lane was charged with trafficking in prison contraband.

Bail on both men was set at $50,000 cash.

Those arrests were followed by the arrest of the two women on Wednesday. Michele Atiles, 46, of Beverly, Mass., was arrested in Massachusetts on warrants charging her with two counts of trafficking in prison contraband and two counts of iilegal Importation of scheduled drugs. She will be extradited to Maine later to answer to her charges.

Brittany Bohan, 30, of Beverly, was also indicted in the case. She stands charged with two counts of trafficking in prison contraband, two counts of illegal importation of scheduled drugs and two counts of unlawful furnishing of a scheduled drug. She is currently on the lam with active warrants for her arrest. If you know the location of Bohan the York County Sheriff's Office would like you to contact them or your local police department.

York County Jail Investigators coordinated the investigation with the York County District Attorney's Office, United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement Agency, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and the United States Postal Inspection Service.
