Pair who died in Saturday crash identified as Barrington couple

ROCHESTER - The two who died in a fatal two-car accident on Saturday have been identified as a Barrington couple.

The crash occurred around 9:15 p.m. on Washington Street in the area of Fillmore Boulevard.

A preliminary invesigation leads police to believe a 2010 Dodge Journey, driven by James Hughes Sr, 64, of Barrington, was traveling west on Washington Street when a 2017 Chevy Silverado, driven by Joshua McCarthy, 32, of Rochester, was exiting Fillmore Blvd and turning onto Washington Street when the two vehicles collided.

James Hughes Sr. died on the way to the hospital, while his wife, Suzanne Hughes, 59, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Two passengers in the Silverado were transported to Frisbie Memorial Hospital with what were described as nonlife threatening injuries, while neither McCarthy nor a third passenger in the Silverado were transported.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
