ROCHESTER - The truck that longtime Rochester Public Works employee Benjamin Washok Jr. regularly worked out was one of many in a procession that honored his memory on Friday.

Washok, who worked for the city for some 40 years, died recently at the age of 76.

He also worked for many years at the Rochester Fair.

"Benny was laid to rest in one of his never touched DPW uniforms that he saved for this occasion," said Peter Nourse, Director of City Services. "He loved Rochester and the DPW. To say he was revered by everyone here is an understatement. He will be greatly missed."

Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Ruby (Pike) Washok, his children William Washok Sr. and wife Darlene of East Rochester, Kathleen Washok of Rochester, and Benjamin Washok III of Littleton.

"Many of our staff attended his service," Nourse added. "The funeral procession went to the Franklin Street Cemetery. There was a parade of large DPW trucks following behind. Benny's own truck was also in the procession."
