ROCHESTER - Lewis R. Day, 93, died Thursday, Feb. 27, 2014, at the Rochester Manor.

Born in Hopkinton August 16, 1920 the son of Charles E. and Ruth A. (Corliss) Day. He went to schools in Ipswich, Mass., and came to Dover in 1937 where he operated a farm. He also worked as a mechanic for the former V.H. Cogswell Co. and the Somersworth Transportation Bus Co. He was well known for restoring many old and antique farm tractors.

He moved to Rochester about 25 years ago and for the past year and a half he and his wife Florence have resided at the Rochester Manor.

He is survived by his wife of 72 years Florence (Goodwin) Day; two sons, Alfred Day and wife Cricket of Lady Lake, Fla., Kenneth Day of Epsom, three daughters Marilyn Staples and husband Howard of Rochester, Linda Penney and husband Steven of West Ossipee, Cherie Smith and partner Jim Wesson of Pittsfield, a brother George Day of Dover, 8 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by brothers Charles Day, Jr.; John Day; Herbert Day; Everett Day and Fred Day and sisters Flossie Hunt; Mildred Chambers and Amy Hall.
