LEBANON, Maine - Maine State Police continue to investigate whether speed or impairment may have been to blame in a four-car crash that left a Rochester teen with serious head injuries.
The accident occurred on Sunday around 11 a.m. in the area of 413 Carl Broggi Hwy., when police say a 2011 Toyota Tacoma headed east crossed the centerline and sideswiped two westbound vehicles before careening through a wooded area on the north side of the highway and hitting a parked car in a driveway.
Scott Fryou, 17, of Rochester, N.H., a passenger in the truck, sustained serious head injuries and was flown by LifeFlight of Maine to Maine Medical Center in Portland.
Maine Medical Center's spokesman said today he had "no info on a patient by that name."
Maine State Trooper A. Ritland, who was on scene Sunday, said that as of last night he remained in critical condition.
The driver of the pickup, 18-year-old Robert Rapino of Lynnfield, Mass., was initially transported to Southern Maine Medical Center in Sanford with unspecified head injuries; he, too, was later transported to Maine Med, Ritland said. Rapino was listed in fair condition today.
Neither teen was wearing a seat belt, police said.
The three occupants of the two vehicles that were sideswiped were treated at the scene and released.
One of the vehicles sideswiped was totaled, Ritland said.
Route 202 from Depot to Center road was closed for about four hours as troopers investigated the crash.
