MILTON - Milton’s Winter Carnival is all set for next weekend from Feb. 14-16 and it promises to be bigger and better than ever.

As usual the venues include the Milton Moose Club, the Emma Ramsey Center and the Town Beach, while added attractions include an evening meal cooked over an open fire under the moon at the Farm Museum and a tri-club snowmobile Poker Run that will converge at Moose Mountain in Brookfield. Day by day schedule follows.

One important note: Reservations for the Sweethearts Dance at the Milton Moose must be made no later than today!

Friday, Feb. 14, at the Moose Lodge

The festivities kick off Friday at the Moose Lodge on White Mountain Highway with a Meat Bingo at 6:30 p.m. Cards cost $1.

The Sue Tompson Memorial Chili Willie Chili Cook-off begins at 6. All entries must be dropped off between 6- 8:00 p.m. Entries will be judged by participants ($5.00 donation for judging rights) 7 p.m.: The Mark Goodell Memorial Pool Tournament $5 Tournament Entry Fee.

New this year sponsored by the Women of the Moose #2336 Death by Chocolate Silent Auction & Chocolate Sampler plate ($5.00)

Friday at the Emma Ramsey

Also on Friday at The Emma Ramsey Community Center there will be an ice fishing course from 5-7 p.m. This course is open to children 8 years old and up who are interested in learning the sport of ice fishing. Children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult for this course. Class size is limited to 15 children. You must be present for both classes to participate. The second part of the course will take place on Milton Three Ponds the following morning from 8-noon at the Town Beach.

If you would like to register, please contact the recreation dept. at 652-4501 ext. 8. Registration closes today at 4. We need at least 8 kids to run this class.

Friday at the Farm Museum

Also on Friday night, A Night on the Farm. As part of the 2014 Milton Winter Carnival celebration, the NH Farm Museum will be hosting a new program this year on from 4-7 p.m.

Participants are invited to an evening of activities on the farm which will include a sleigh ride/wagon ride (depending on weather). The boy scouts will be on hand to help participants build a tin-foil dinner, and cook them over an open campfire under the full Snow Moon.

When dinner is over, you can complete the meal by making your own smores for dessert! As part of the fun families are invited to try their hand at making a Victorian Valentines to take home.

You must call the Milton Recreation Department to register for this program @ 652-4501 ext. 8. Registration is open until Feb. 12. This is a free program, but donations will be gratefully accepted.

Saturday, Feb. 15, at the Emma Ramsey

Beginning at 7 a.m. at The Emma Ramsey Center, there will be a Class of 2013 Pancake Breakfast. Join the Nute High School Class of 2014 as they serve up some yummy breakfast goodies. Help support our Nute Seniors!

Beginning at 8 a.m. there will be an End 68 Hours of Hunger Booth. Folks can bring some canned fruit, tuna, jar of peanut butter or other nutritional donations and find out how you can help out our Milton youth in need of assistance.

From 9 a.m.-1p.m. there will tours of the Milton Fire Station where visitors can get an up-close look at new fire/safety apparatus. Fire personal will be on hand to show you around and answer your questions about both old/proposed fire stations.

At 10 a.m. at the Emma Ramsey there will be Winter Carnival Bingo - Play for Prizes. This free family event is a lot of fun and a prize will be awarded for each game.

From 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.: Balloons w/White Marriott.

11:00 - 3:45 pm: MWC Silent Auction: (pick-up immediately following the close of the auction at 3:45. Make a bid on an assortment of children's/family items to help support our 2013 Arts in the Park Family Festival.

From 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. there will be Horse Drawn Wagon Rides (Emma Parking Lot) Families are invited to join Steve Collins from Belgian Meadows Farm and his beautiful Belgian Horses for horse-drawn wagon rides.

From 11 a.m. on there will be Food Concessions hosted by the Nute Class of 2015. Crock-pots & goodies to be served up to help support the music department.

Beginning at 12:30: W.I.L.D. Traveling Zoo. Join the staff of this wonderful traveling zoo and learn some amazing facts about the animals that travel around educating us all on their care and preservation.

At 1:30 p.m.: Tricky Dick’s Magic Show. Join Richard Perreault for an afternoon of magic and fun! He is sure to wow us with some of his wonderful tricks and his great sense of humor!

From 1-3 p.m.: Face Painting by Linda Local artist Linda Lamper will delight children/adults alike with her whimsical face designs.

From 1-3 p.m.: Fingerprinting Clinic hosted by the Milton Police Department.

From 2:30-3:30 p.m.: The Milton Homeschool Group will host assorted games and crafts for the kids. Last year this was one of the most popular activities all day. These wonderful moms come up with some great games and activities to keep the kids happy and busy for the remainder of the afternoon!

At the Town Beach on Saturday  

8 a.m.: Breakfast by the Beach sponsored by the Nute Friends of Music, breakfast sandwiches and assorted breakfast items, hot coffee & hot chocolate.

8 a.m.: MWC Family Fishing Derby - (Registration) Children’s Derby (8:00 - 12:00) Adult Derby (8:00 - 3:00) Adults ($10.00); Children ($5.00 first child / $3.00 additional siblings). Prizes to be awarded for each group (Adult/Children) (1) First Catch (2) Longest Catch (3) Shortest Catch. Trophies & Prizes will be awarded at the completion of each derby.

8:00 a.m. – fishing all day, try your hand

9:00 a.m.: 22nd Annual MWC Opening Ceremonies Join the MWC Committee, the Nute High School Band and Chorus & the VFW for our Opening Ceremonies. 9:10 a.m.: Lanterns of Love will be launched off the beach front for anyone who wants to send up a valentine of love to someone who is no longer with us or maybe someone who is off serving our country. Join the carnival committee as we see how many Chinese lanterns of love we can launch at the same time.

9 a.m.-1 p.m.: Milton PTA will host an inflatable obstacle course for those daring enough to try a little competition!

9:30 a.m.: Moose Mountain Regional Greenways (post Lantern launch): MMRG will host a snowshoe instruction demonstration and introduce those interested in gaining knowledge of a new recreational activity.

9:30 a.m.: Milton Fire Explorers will host beachside campfire with Smores!

10 a.m.: NH Farm Museum will host a morning of ice cutting demos so everyone can see how our Milton ancestors harvested the ice out of the lake for a living.

All Day: Bring along you sleds, skates, snowshoes etc...have fun in the snow, build a snowman or sculpture! All outside activities are weather dependant!

Snowmobile Club poker run on Saturday

Evergreen Valley Snowmobile Club, Seven Lakes, Powder Mill and Wolfeboro SMC will be hosting their 5th annual poker run Saturday February 15th. Riders start in their perspective club areas with registrations at 9 a.m. and ends at the Lodge at Moose Mountain, Brookfield, N.H. $10 per hand to play, $2 more gets you a sixth card.

Registration begins at 9AM Milton: Milton Pump and Filter Shop; New Durham: Hawgs Pen Cycles; Wakefield: SLSC Clubhouse. 10:00 start time! Run routes are determined by each club. The run begins at 10AM so come by 3 Ponds Tavern or Lakeside Mart for breakfast if you register early!

Parking is available at the old Moose club, and some limited parking at the Citgo station up the road.

DO NOT PARK AT THE POST OFFICE!

After you register at the Milton Pump and Filter Shop, you will be directed to the start of the poker run route.

The average time for this trip is 2 to 2.5 hours.

At the Moose Lodge on Saturday

8 p.m.-Midnight: Milton Winter Carnival Sweethearts Dance. Join the Moose Lodge in welcoming the Tim Theriault Band and Mrs. Jody Gourlay and rock the night away! Tickets are on sale for $15 each/$25 a couple and are only available at the lodge! Tickets are sold on a first come basis limited to 80 tickets! contact Moose Lodge @ 652-9750. There will also be a 50/50 Raffle & MWCC Door Prizes! You can reserve tickets through today! All reserved tickets must be paid for and picked up today.

At the Emma Ramsey on Sunday, Feb. 16

Milton Reads:My Side of the Mountain Movie on the big screen. Join us from 1-4 p.m. for a pizza party, movie viewing and craft related project. This event is sponsored by the MFPL and the Winter Carnival Committee!

1-3 p.m. Come and paint a beautiful painting “Howling at the Moon” with local artist Ann Marie. All the supplies are provided just bring yourself; it’s a great way to spend an afternoon. Space is limited to 10 seats. Please call Ann Marie to sign up at 603-988-5946. Cost is $20 per student.
