CONCORD, N.H. - A Milton Police officer on Friday received the New Hampshire Congressional Law Enforcement Award for trying to save a Wakefield man involved in a fiery crash in Milton earlier this year.

Officer Nicholas Nirgianakis was honored for going "Above
and Beyond the Call of Duty" when he along with other Good Samaritans tried to free the man after his truck caught on fire when it crashed into a tree near the entrance to Lockhart Field on White Mountain Highway the morning of April 26.

Mark Adjutant, 45, of Wakefield, died later that day at Brigham and Women's Hospital after being Medflighted in a desperate attempt to save his life.

Nirgianakis was recognized for his heroic efforts to save Adjutant without regard for his own safety.

Good Samaritans Ronald Sebastian and John Long, along with Nirgianakis, were recognized for their bravery at a Board of Selectmen's meeting in June.
