Mass. woman fatally beaten in broad daylight in front of York beachgoers

YORK, Maine - A Massachusetts man was arrested on Friday after he allegedly beat his girlfriend to death Friday at Short Sands beach in York.

Police responded to the scene around 4 p.m. after getting multiple 911 calls about a man assaulting a woman behind a large rock.

Rhonda Pattelena, 35, of Bedford, Mass., was found dead at the scene.

Shortly afterward police arrested Jeffrey Buchannan, 33, also of Bedford.

The pair were described by police as domestic partners who had one child together.
