Man charged with drunken driving after Richmond crash into utility pole

RICHMOND - A Richmond man was arrested for drunken driving on Friday after he crashed his vehicle into a utility pole snapping it in half.

Police got involved around 6:50 p.m. after they were called to Fitzwilliam Road in Richmond for a vehicle crash into a telephone pole. Initial reports indicated that the pole was snapped in half, resting on top of the vehicle and the top of the pole had caught on fire, State Police said in a statement sent media outlets. The occupant in the vehicle was said to be entrapped due to live wires down in the area. Once the power was off, the operator of the vehicle was removed and identified as 64-year-old Mark Allen of Richmond.

Allen was arrested for DWI and bailed pending an April court date.

Anyone with information regarding the crash is asked to contact Trooper James Lamoureux at (603) 223-3782 or Trooper Robert Stevens at (603) 223-3783.
