Maine man, 20, dies in single-vehicle crash

BENTON, Maine - A 20-year-old Clinton died on Sunday when his vehicle traveling north on Interstate 95 left the roadway in the town of Benton.

The accident occurred around 4:15 p.m. when troopers say his vehicle left the roadway in the area of mile-marker 134. A roadside investigation showed that 20-year-old Isaiah Mathieu of Clinton failed to negotiate a bend in the roadway, before going off the right side and striking the guardrail. Mathieu's vehicle, a 2004 Chevrolet Trax, then continued on into a ditch near the tree line.

Mathieu was declared deceased at the scene.

The exact cause is is unknown; however speed and failure to negotiate the roadway were cited as contributing factors. The crash remains under investigation.
