K-9 team rescues missing 79-year-old York man early Thursday

YORK, Maine - A York K-9 team rescued a 79-year-old York man suffering from dementia after he went missing from his home in the early morning hours Thursday.

The male had been last seen at his residence around 10:30 p.m. on Wednesday, police say.

K-9 team Sgt. Jon Rogers and partner, Günther, were immediately dispatched to the scene to assist in locating the missing man.

Gunther and Sgt. Rogers began the search around 4 a.m. working the surrounding area for about 30 minutes before K-9 Günther began showing signs that the missing man was nearby. Soon after he led Rogers and another officer directly to the man, who was down on the ground.

The man appeared to be OK, but was taken to York Hospital for evaluation.
