ROCHESTER - James Edward Tatten II, of Rochester, New Hampshire (formerly of Brighton, Newton, Natick and Waltham, Mass.), died peacefully at home surrounded by his family on Sunday, September 11, 2016. He was born in Brighton, Mass., to Alice Rose (Kelly) Tatten and James Edward Tatten I, on Sept. 13, 1930.
He was the beloved husband of the late Marguerite M (Vivequin) Tatten. They shared 57 years of marriage together. He is the father of Susan Tatten of N.H.; Patricia (Tatten) Kelleher and her husband Francis of Mass.; Nancy Tatten of N.H.; James Tatten III of Mass.; Maureen Tatten of Mass.; and Janet (Tatten) McGrath and her husband David of Mass.. He is the loving Grandpa to Christopher and Julianne Kelleher, Ryan and Kyle Tatten, and Russell McGrath. He is the brother of Margaret Patterson of Ariz.; Noreen LePage of Mass., and was predeceased by his brothers Russell Tatten of Mass., and Robert Tatten of Neb. Jim leaves an extended network of beloved nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
He was a graduate of St. Columbkille High School in Brighton, Mass. James served in the Army 518th Ord. Co. (DS) and was at the Battle of Chosin during the Korean War. He was the Highway Superintendent for the Department of Public Works for the City of Newton for 35 years and worked for the family business, Newtonville Cab Co. He also worked for the Mass. and N.H. Turnpike Authorities. He and his wife Marguerite were members of the Pease Greeters in Portsmouth, where they met US troops deploying or returning from their missions.
