ROCHESTER - Have you ever had a bad frappe?

Of course not.

When I was a kid my mom would take me out for a frappe and a nab for lunch.

Well, with that mindset I stopped down at Sprinkles and Smiles on Small Business Saturday to have one of their frappes (shakes) that I had been jonesin' over ever since Jeff Bisson of Rochester Main Street - who sometimes takes a shift at Sprinkles - told me that they could concoct infinite variations of deliciousness using their vast candy assortment and ice cream flavors.

Well, I was down in the downtown doing a story for Small Business Saturday, and it was lunchtime, so I was down with the concept.

Sprinkles and Smiles manager Myrina Jalbert guided me through the process of choosing the flavor that would most gratify me while adding a few pounds.

I settled on peanut butter swirl ice cream with Reese's Pieces.

"Do you want them whole or crunched up," Jalbert asked.

"Whole," I shot back. "Bring it on."

Now mind you, this doesn't come out of a machine like some fast food place.

Jalbert spent at least five minutes concocting this Mona Lisa of culinary decadence.

As I walked out of Sprinkles I was mesmerized by the visual beauty of what she had wrought. It was almost too beautiful to eat. I waited till I got in my car for the first delicious taste.

When I sucked up the first taste it came with a couple of Reese's Pieces and peanut buttery, sweet, fresh creamy deliciousness that made me feel, as the Pink Floyd song says, "comfortably numb."

The only way it could've been better is if it had no calories. While a typical shake is 500 calories and a lot of fat, this one - with all the candy and whipped cream at the top - you're probably talking 700.

Suffice it to say, I hope the gym is open today!

Sprinkles and Smiles is located at 16 North Main St. in downtown Rochester. They open at noon today.
