MANCHESTER - On Tuesday the New Hampshire Professional Photographers Association held its Annual Business Meeting, which included the election of Officers and Directors; Rochester professional photographer Tanya Hervey, owner of Tanya Lee Hervey Photography, was voted in by the membership for a second term as President, for 2020-2021.

Ms. Hervey joined the association in 2014, the same year she launched her portrait and event photography business in Rochester, and she credits involvement with the NHPPA as having played a big part in her success with her business and she urges fellow photographers of all skill levels to consider joining a photographic organization as well.

"Whether you have a photography business, aspire to have a photography business, or you want to hone your skills as a photography enthusiast, joining your state's PPA affiliate association will elevate you to the next level. I can personally attest to that," Ms. Hervey said.

NHPPA Presidents have served for one year since the early '90s, when the term for President was two years, Ms. Hervey noted, adding, "I am honored to have the opportunity to have a second consecutive term; I feel like it takes that first year to learn the ropes, and having that second year will allow the rest of the Board and me to see through some of the positive changes we are setting in motion this year."

The NHPPA is an affiliate of the Professional Photographer's of America (PPA), and all of the New England states and many states beyond have affiliate associations. Ms. Hervey says, "What many people don't realize is that in New Hampshire, you don't have to be a professional photographer to join and start taking advantage of the programs and events, many times featuring national and world-class speakers. You can come in at any level of experience, and choose at any time to submit your portfolio for review to achieve Professional status." Along with her involvement in the NHPPA, Hervey also runs the Greater Rochester Camera Club with photographer and friend Shawn Pierce, owner of Shawn Pierce Photography.

"Shawn approached me three years ago this coming May about starting a camera club for all skill levels. The greater Rochester area needed one, and although neither one of us had a plan, we drew upon what we knew from how the NHPPA does things and put our own spin on it," she said.

The camera club currently has 70 members and is very active with photo walks, hands-on workshops, speaker meetings several times per year, no cliques, and lots of learning and camaraderie.
