DOVER - A Rochester transient with multiple convictions for failing to register as a sex offender as well as being a Habitual Offender on the highways is off the streets as of Wednesday when he pleaded guilty to Habitual Offender, failing to register as a sex offender and disobeying a police officer.
James M. Watt, 46, was sentenced by Strafford Superior Court Judge Andrew B Livernois to 1-2 years in a New Hampshire State Prison for failing to report, stand committed; and suspended sentences on the other charges.
Watt had been sought since February on arrest warrants filed by the Rockingham and Strafford County Sheriff's Offices on the outstanding charges.
He was taken into custody on Feb. 25.
Anytime a sex offender moves from one community to another they have a duty to inform local police.
Habitual offender status is instated when a motorists has numerous vehicle infractions within a certain time frame.
