Grand jury indicts Laconia man in 2019 fatal beating

Hassan Sapry (Police mugshot)

CONCORD - The Attorney General's Office announced on Tuesday that a former Laconia man has been indicted in connection with the death of 58-year-old Wilfred Guzman in Laconia in 2019,

Hassan Sapry was formally charged with one count of first-degree murder for purposely causing the death of Guzman by beating and cutting his head and neck multiple times, and one alternative count of second-degree murder for recklessly causing his death under circumstances manifesting an extreme indifference to the value of human life by beating and cutting his head and neck multiple times. Sapry was also indicted on one count of falsifying physical evidence.

Sapry remains held without bail. His arraignment on the indictments is scheduled for May 12 in the Belknap County Superior Court.

An indictment is not an indication of guilt, rather that enough evidence has been presented to a grand jury to warrant a trial.

Guzman was found dead at his 57 Blueberry Lane apartment on April 19, 2019, after police were asked to conduct a welfare check by the man's son.
