ROCHESTER - New Hampshire Gov. Chris Sununu on Thursday endorsed Rochester mayoral hopeful Paul Callaghan as his pick for the city's top office.

"Count me in as an enthusiastic supporter of Paul Callaghan for Mayor of Rochester," Sununu said. "From raising a family to coaching youth sports to a distinguished career in local law enforcement, Paul has shown a commitment to the Lilac City that is second to none."

Sununu, a Republican, also expressed confidence in Callaghan on the fiscal front.

"He will work hard to provide even greater economic opportunities for all and make sure tax dollars are spent smartly," he added. "The citizens of Rochester will be well served with Paul Callaghan as Mayor and I urge everyone to vote for him."

Callaghan on Thursday said he was grateful for the vote of confidence.

"I am humbled to have the support of Governor Chris Sununu and I look forward to working with him as our city's next mayor as we move Rochester forward," he said. "Together, we'll lower taxes, keep our city safe and ensure that our budget is fiscally sound so that we keep Rochester a great place to work, live and raise a family."
