ROCHESTER - A recent COVID outbreak at Rochester's Studley Home has ended with everyone who tested positive for the virus feeling better and out of quarantine.

"We're out of the woods and everybody made it through," Studley Home administrator Kate Buckovitch told The Rochester Voice on Friday

Buckovitch said the outbreak first came to light on Nov. 16 when a resident felt sick and was tested. She said the test came back positive within 24 hours and they immediately tested every resident and staff the next day.

Following those tests it was learned that 19 residents and two staff had tested positive. The number swelled to 28 - including staff and residents - on Dec. 1.

Buckovitch said she was overjoyed that all of her staff and residents, who include two centenarians, made it through.

She said of all the residents who contracted the virus, about a quarter of them were asymptomatic and the rest had only mild symptoms.

As of Thursday the 40-bed elderly care facility was still on the DHHS outbreak list, but Buckovitch said they had cleared all COVID time frames and quarantine guidelines.

"During the outbreak is was difficult emotionally for everyone, but our residents were very understanding and my staff did great," she said. "We're just glad it's over."
