ROCHESTER - A Gonic man turned himself into police on Wednesday for his alleged involvement in a downtown melee in February.
Michael J. McMahon, 42, of Mavis Avenue, was charged with criminal threatening-conduct, two counts of criminal threatening against a person and disorderly conduct.
According to Rochester Police Capt. Todd Pinkham, the arrest stemmed from an incident on Feb 24 after officers were dispatched to the intersection of Bridge and River Streets around 11:50 p.m. for the report of a fight involving a firearm.
Dispatch had been informed there were 10-15 people involved.
Pinkham said police had been sent to the same area about a half hour earlier for a disturbance, but when they arrived there was no one there.
In the latter incident McMahon is alleged to have gone to the area and began yelling obscenities at some people outside.
"It appeared as if some of the people knew each other, and that this may have stemmed from a prior incident between some of the people on scene, but not all of them," Pinkham said today.
McMahon got out of his vehicle and continued to yell and threaten some people, "saying things like he was going to 'screw them up' and threatening to shoot them," Pinkham noted, adding no gun was ever recovered, and no one at the scene reported seeing a weapon.
At the time of the incident McMahon was with Brittany Gonzales, 22, of Mavis Avenue, who turned herself in with McMahon. She is being charged with disorderly conduct for allegedly yelling obscenities.
